[edit] Emanuel Pastreich
Emanuel Pastreich serves as advisor to the governor of Chungnam Province in South Korea and an associate professor at the SolBridge International School of Business at Woosong University in Daejeon. He has written on international relations and globalization, and been deeply involved in the debate on policy in Asia and the United States.
Pastreich taught Japanese literature at the University of Illinois from 1997 to 2004, focusing on the literary and intellectual history of Japan, Korea and China. He also was involved in efforts to encouraged better relations between the countries of East Asia.
From 2005-2007 Pastreich served as an advisor to the minister for public affairs at the Korean Embassy in Washington D.C. while teaching at George Washington University. The lecture series "KORUS House" that he organized at that time allowed for a frank discussion of important issues in East Asia by figures rarely allowed to enter into the Washington debate.
Pastreich's best known article is "Is China the Nemesis in a New Cold War?" published by the Nautilus Institute in March, 2006. In this argument, Pastreich compares the relationship of the United States with China to that of Great Britain and the United States in the 20th century.
