[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Kimveer Gill.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Kimveer Gill.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Molotov-dadd.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Molotov-dadd.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia 03:02, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for the "warning" :) I'd like to know if by reducing image quality this will qualify as fair use. EOZyo (мѕğ) 18:44, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Great pictograms

Squash

Thank you for the compliment. I'm very pleased that you like the sport icons, and as I said, feel free to use them since they're exactly that — free! As for a squash icon, I told I only had icons for Olympic sports; I'll create one for squash but the image file won't be named "Olympic pictogram Squash" as with all the others. Parutakupiu 22:35, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Done. What do you think? It's nothing very different from other racket sports but I tried to change the figure's positioning. Parutakupiu 00:44, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
Here's the image for bowling — Bowling. Parutakupiu 17:26, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
OK! No worries, I'll create them too ;) I forgot to say that I've retouched the softball image so they now look different. Parutakupiu 17:48, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Yep, I am from Portugal alright. Tu também escreves muito bem português ;) Well, I'm going to make the karate and water skiing images for you. See you. Parutakupiu 16:28, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mexican Flag

Hello,

I believe you added this to the Flag of Mexico article on April 12th: -- please, don't tell me it's not obvious the fact that people can confuse them --

I was the one who added that citation tag on the article with a note in the talk page as follows: The section about common mistakes of construction said that the Italian flag with an aspect of 2:3 is more rectangular than the Mexican flag (aspect of 4:7). This seems wrong in two ways. First, both flags actually are rectangles in an absolute sense. Second, by rectangular the contributor probably meant more elongated and less squarish, but actually that applies to the Mexican flag not the Italian...so I have changed the wording.

Anyway, the section as a whole seems a little odd in that it considers the Mexican flag to be regularly constructed from the Italian flag as a base. There are obvious similarities between the two flags, but I think there should be some reference(s) to when/where people are actually making Mexican flags out of Italian flags.

My point is not that people might be confused (apart from the emblem on the Mexican flag), but that we are claiming that people take Italian flags and convert them into Mexican flags. I accept that people would probably place the Mexican coat of arms on any green/white/red tricolor and not be aware of the subtleties of the colors and aspect ratio, but I have trouble accepting that people regularly take genuine Italian flags and put Mexican coats of arms on them. I encourage you to add a reference if you know this specific technique of flag-making is prevalent because I can't find one. Dwr12 (talk) 22:39, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
