From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Enuminous is a portmanteau word coined by Matthew Chenoweth Wright in 1986, when he published the now-defunct internet and print zine eNuminous: A Journal of Electronic Shamans.
Quoted from the short biography on a website at geocities.com/enuminous ([1]):
eNuminous:
e. noun, "having electronic properties."
numinous. adjective, "spiritual sense"
"eNuminous" and "invisible caterpillar" are, of course, reserved trademarks and marketing slogans, and have been for quite a while.
The word has become a primary internet pseudonym for Matthew, a visual and sound recording artist.
He coined the word back in 1986 to refer to the concept of gaining spiritual sense from the shared consciousness nascent then on the Internet, an interconnectedness with humanity through technology, akin to the interconnectedness with God, which is one meaning of the original word, "Numinous"
His publishing company, invisible caterpillar media, have recently released music under the band name eNuminous & Archimedes (albeit a very virtual band) comprised of Matthew and various imaginary musicians.
