[edit] Plot summary
This episode balances three plotlines. In the main story, Archer investigates the appearance of an alien pilot at the site of a spatial anomaly. In a secondary story, the long-simmering anger between Malcolm Reed and Major Hayes finally comes to a head when they get into a physical fight over their competing roles aboard Enterprise. Lastly, T'Pol experiences unexpected jealousy when Trip Tucker begins displaying an attraction to a female MACO, which leads to an emotional confrontation with results that leave both parties surprised and uncomfortable.
The episode was intended as a "breather" episode between major sections of the Xindi arc and is noted for introducing a sexual relationship between the characters of Trip Tucker and T'Pol. A later episode, "Damage", would explain T'Pol's un-Vulcanlike behavior in this episode and other episodes, while the fourth season episode, "Home", would further explore the relationship between Trip and T'Pol. The fourth season episode "Bound" would reveal that their single encounter had an unexpected side-effect - a bond.
Two versions of the episode were broadcast. In Europe and Canada, viewers saw brief nudity during the Trip/T'Pol sex scene, while viewers in the United States saw a censored version; the 2005 DVD release is uncensored. The sequence was originally planned uncut for the US broadcast but was changed due to the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show controversy
