Entryway
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An entryway is a hall in a house that is located at the front entrance of the house. An entryway usually has linoleum or tile flooring rather than carpet. An entryway also often has a coat closet. Many houses do not have entryways, and in many houses the front door leads straight into the living room or some other room in the house. The majority of houses with entryways are located outside the United States, as most modern American houses lack them.
Some university dormitories, for example Harvard College's Lowell House, use the term "entryway" to refer to sometimes non-communicating sections of the residence hall, each having its own door, designed to create small residential communities within the larger House.
