Enrique Peña Nieto (born July 20, 1966) is a Mexican politician and the current Governor of the State of Mexico.

Peña studied Law in the Universidad Panamericana (UP). He holds a MBA from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM).
Peña Nieto was married to Monica Pretelini who died on January 11, 2007 due to a convulsive crisis. The couple had three children.

Enrique Peña has been an active Institutional Revolutionary Party member since 1984. He worked on the campaigns of former governors Emilio Chuayffet in 1993, and Arturo Montiel, in 1999. He served in the Congress of the State of Mexico during the LV legislature.
In July 2005 Peña Nieto was elected Governor of the State of Mexico, receiving 49.2% of the vote, while the candidates of the National Action Party and the Party of the Democratic Revolution received about 25% each. He took office on September 16, 2005.
On May 10, 2007, four of Nieto's family bodyguards were shot to death on the grounds of a hotel that his family, not Nieto himself, were staying in the port of Veracruz. It is not yet clear who was behind the attack or even whether they intended to target Nieto's family members.
