Enrique's Journey
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Enrique's Journey is a non-fiction book by Sonia Nazario, about a young boy from Honduras who makes the difficult journey on foot and by train from Tegucigalpa to North Carolina, to be reunited with his mother. She left 11 years before to work in the U. S., thinking she would be back in a year and leaving her children with relatives. All Enrique has is $57 and a telephone number.
The journey involves traveling on the tops of freight trains, through areas full of human predators as well as those who try to help. Nazario traveled the same route as Enrique after hearing the story from him. Her series of articles in the Los Angeles Times about Enrique, which form the basis for this book, won her the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Feature Writing.
The book is due to be filmed by HBO as a mini-series.
