[edit] Re: DSLR
Hi Enochlau,
Well as general advice stick with Canon. They're the best. The EOS 350D is a very good budget choice, but in recent years the 20D (which is what I have) has dropped considerably and is now a good option. 20D is a sensational camera, really can't criticize it. 350D is said to be very good, but I haven't actually tried it first hand.
The biggest trap with a DSLR is lenses. Do NOT get a cheap wide to tele zoom! Eg 28-300mm. The quality will be rubbish and you will wonder why you are getting worse images than you Point and shoot. Your lense is going to be the limiting factor of your camera. I'm very happy with my first lens (Tamron 28-75 f/2.8). It's sharp, reasonable macro/focus speed and is a good price, especially since you get f/2.8 (do you understand aperture?). A good zoom lens is the Canon 70-200mm f/4 L. I don't have it, but it's a "L" lens which means it complies to a very high technical standard. And it's one of the few affordable L's. Very highly recommended first zoom. It has pretty good macro too. Check out this page for some nice samples of the 70-200mm f/4. Most of my 20D shots are taken with the Tamron. Go to www.fredmiranda.com for more reviews.
Hope that's usefull to you, feel free to ask more questions! --Fir0002 12:41, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Spoken Wikipedia
Howdy - Please remember to add new spoken articles (such as Sydney) to Wikipedia:Spoken articles. In addition to keeping this list complete, it allows me to notice new articles to add to the RSS feed. I happened to catch this one because of your change to the project page, so I added it to the list for you. Thanks! -SCEhardT 00:12, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] BOT - Regarding your recent protection of Adrian febre:
You recently protected[1] this page but did not give a protection summary. If this is an actual (not deleted) article, talk, or project page, make sure that it is listed on WP:PP. VoABot will automatically list such protected pages only if there is a summary. Do not remove this notice until a day or so, otherwise it may get reposted. Thanks. VoABot 11:01, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- Oops, well, it was a {{deletedpage}} so that should be ok... enochlau (talk) 11:15, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- Then the bot would not have listed it anyways :).Voice-of-All 17:35, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Madsen
There were a whole lot of fire trucks and related personnel outside Madsen building today. Nothing was on fire. Looked ominous. Kewpid 12:42, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Your user page
Hi, did you know that your user page is still protected? Shalmanese, who seemed to be editing your userpage and being reverted a lot in March, hasn't edited since 8 May. --Tony Sidaway 17:59, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'm aware of that and I intend to keep it protected... unless policy has changed recently so I can't keep it indefinitely protected? enochlau (talk) 02:48, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- Do you really think it is reasonable to restrict access to your user page? I dunno, something about admins doing that just bothers me. Alphachimp talk 07:39, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Nice Photo
I really like the photo on your userpage. Even though you're half a world away from us here in New York, something about it seemed sort of close to home. I dunno, but good job. Regards, Alphachimp talk 07:39, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Glossary of Bagpipe terms
There was a {{hangon}} template on this article. Regardless, I know the editor from collaborations with other articles, and I have no doubt that he will turn this into something useful. I believe that the speedy was improper. According to WP:DRV, a short stub deleted may be recreated with mor content. To save the editor time, I plan on undeleting th epage, with the notice to the editor that it should be filled out with some content within 24 hours. Thank you. -- Avi 03:21, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Car running on water deletion
Sorry to break it to you, but deleting this article was kinda lame. Since it's been published on PESwiki, it should not just be discarted as "nonsense". The PESwiki-site is by my judgement very accurate (scientific magazines frequently discribe some of their topics).
More-over, I believe allot of people would want to read this article, and it could be a real contribution to Wikipedia.
regards,
- I stand by my original judgement and if you wish to contest the deletion, go to WP:DRV. enochlau (talk) 09:28, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Brad Hussey page
Let me create a Brad Hussey page.
- Read WP:BIO. If you just recreate that content, it will be deleted again as per WP:CSD. enochlau (talk) 03:37, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Fima Roeytenberg
WHy did you delete this page?
- It was deleted as being a non-notable biography. If you wish to recreate it, you may wish to expand on the notability of the subject. enochlau (talk) 02:13, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Sydney Wikimania... and what pumpkin is that?
Greetings fellow Sydney-sider. (Speaking of which... check Wikipedia:Meetup/Sydney#Sydney_Wikimania_get-together.3F)
Do you happen to know what variety of pumpkin this is? I ask as there's very little info on varieties on the pumpkin article. It looks like a Japanese or Kent... --Singkong2005 talk 11:49, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- (Replied on user page. enochlau (talk) 13:56, 31 July 2006 (UTC))
- I added a comment to the description, re the most likely variety. Thanks, --Singkong2005 talk 02:09, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] JzG
This user will not quit. He has vandalized my talkpage numerous times over the past three days
- Today he deleted comments of other users with no explanation[3], protecting my talkpage[4] without any justification, deleting my response to his harassment on my talkpage with the bizarre edit summary "Since you are saying goodbye, let's assume you mean it, eh?", and then leaving this threatening message to intimidate me into leaving[5].
Before that he vandalized my talkpage[6]. Then when I reverted another user assumed he was right and reverted to JzG's version, but realized he was wrong and apologized. I was cordially and said it was alright. JzG has left numerous uncivil comments on my talkpage that can be viewed if one goes through the history of the page. He has also repeatedly been warned. I want him blocked immediately. Tchadienne 22:37, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Mvt2.png
Hi! I replaced this graphics with an svg version. I think png could be deleted. Best, 4@
[edit] Jolin Tsai fansites
Foreign language fansites are doubly useless compared to even normal fansites, but hey, knock yourself out as you make this encyclopedia more like a fanpage than something useful. Desertsky85451 17:19, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Funding agreements in the VSU article.
Hey,
You have put a "citation needed" thing in the VSU article. While it's not online, you can refer to the President's report in Honi Soit this week. A deal was agreed for Sydney University at the Senate meeting on Monday. It guarantees funding to the SRC and SUPRA for the next 12 months. It isn't equal to full funding as these organisations received in pre-VSU days, but is very substantial, apparently the best in the country. Ben Raue (Talk) 00:07, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] My article

[edit] I havva problem
My user page appears in Category:Shanghai even though it's not a listed category on the page (as in, when I open it to edit I don't see Category:Shanghai. What's going on? --Sumple (Talk) 04:40, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Andrea di Robilant
Hi there, I'm wondering about moving this page that you started. Could you take a look at Talk:Andrea di Robilant and comment on this? Many thanks, cheers, JackyR | Talk 15:16, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Empty pages
Ok, creating the template pages first cos I have the categories ready to paste on clipboard. I understand that blanks may cause a problem, but at least give me some time to sort things out! Only been a few mins and I only have 1 pair of hands! ;) - HTUK 17:42, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Jolin Tsai
Lets not have an edit war over this. Go find a directory of fansites at yahoo or somewhere else, and use that as the one external link for fansites intead of a link to one specific site. Desertsky85451 17:44, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
- (Replied on user page. enochlau (talk) 17:46, 2 September 2006 (UTC))
- I really don't care about what the link is, nor do I even know who Jolin Tsai is; I am against excessive fansite links on wikipedia. I'd ban them all if I could. Keep up the good editing man. Desertsky85451 17:49, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Rootschat entry deletion
I'm wondering why the entry 'rootschat' was deleted on 13 January 2006. Isn't there supposed to be some kind of discussion and /or vote before something gets deleted? I can't find any discussion on the subject. bonjedward
- It was deleted as a non-notable group, which is speedily deletable under WP:CSD. If you wish to dispute the deletion, go to WP:DRV. enochlau (talk) 20:20, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
I do intend to dispute it. The WP:CSD states that
Non-notable subjects with their importance asserted: Articles that have obviously non-notable subjects are still not eligible for speedy deletion unless the article "does not assert the importance or significance of its subject".
Since the text has been deleted, I have no way of knowing whether it did or did not assert the importance of its subject. However, a rapidly expanding genealogical forum with 34287 users, 844075 posts on 154588 topics, arguably the leading forum in its field (British and Irish genealogy) is not "obviously non-notable". bonjedward
- You do realise that January was a long time ago. You can go and recreate the article, but this time putting in statements that reflect the notability of this website. enochlau (talk) 21:15, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] China
meh. I would be okay with [[Republic of China]] ("[[Taiwan]]"). Anyway I quit from that debate. My version seems to have been accepted for that sentence, but they're moved on to arguing about other stuff. --Sumple (Talk) 09:28, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] vandalblock
You and I were blocking Special:Contributions/MarkdeRosaEsteban about the same time — yours took first. You imposed a 24-hour block for vandalism. I was going to make it an indefinite as a vandalism-only account. An account to keep an eye on. — ERcheck (talk) 12:58, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] USYD Clock Tower image
Hi. You asked to be notified if your image of the USYD Clock Tower was altered. I've tilted it a little and cropped it, because I thought it would look more symmetrical. I intended to replace the original but bungled it, so both the old and new versions are up now.

I'm rewriting the link in the USYD article to point to the new image. I'm also going to try and distribute the images in that article as evenly as I can, since there's some congestion. -- Shoejar 08:56, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
-
- Thanks for the correction. I've rearranged those images as best as I could. Nothing too fancy... I just didn't like the way they were all piled on top of each other on the right-hand side.
-
- I think the page could do with some big-time expansion. -- Shoejar 13:39, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
