A longtime user of computer-based communication, I began by visiting Austin, Texas BBSs in 1984 with my first bought computer, a 128k Macintosh, and a 1200-baud modem. I received my B.A. in Arts and Humanities from Colorado State University in 1993 and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from American University in 2001. I briefly taught writing as an adjunct faculty at American University (where I pioneered the study of graphic novels as a basis for writing assignments) and George Mason University. My web site, "First Impressions," which has now morphed into my weblog, Immediacy, was one of the first book review sites on the web. I work for a large non-profit healthcare association in the Washington, DC metro region as their community and intranet manager.
