[edit] Improving engineering articles

An interesting discussion is taking place in User_talk:Mbeychok/MRB's_Survey_of_Wikipedian_Engineers#Problem. Please share your thoughts! --Zvika 09:37, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Major Changes

If no one minds, I am going to be fiddling around with the engineering portal a bit, since it recently appeared on the Pages needing cleanup section of Wikipedia. If you have any problems with what I'm doing, please post a message with your changes so we can avoid any kind of version war. Also, I would like to state for the record that I am a mechanical engineer, so if I misstate something about another branch of engineering feel free to correct me. - Ame Errante 18:23, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Go ahead Ame, nothing better that seeing another wikipedian working to get involved in improving a page. I'll keep an eye on the Chemical Eng. branch. Thanks. --Ozzyprv 12:28, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
I just made some minor formatting edits to the selected article, which I'm super glad to see was updated today. :) Engineering is not my topic of expertise, but I notice other aspects of the portal that also need updated (e.g. selected picture). Feel free to update that too, and make any other updates you think are needed. Thanks. -Aude (talk | contribs) 00:27, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Kmf164,
Thank you for the edits. This portal is certainly in need of a few changes... One thing you changed that I reverted, however, is the name of the article displayed on the portal. The title 'Featured Article' is correct in this case, because the article has been marked as being a Featured Article by Wikipedia, as are all articles posted to this box. The image. however, is not officially considered Featured, so we instead call it 'Selected'. As for the selected picture, you are absolutely right, it is in serious need of updating... I'll see what I can find, but the current one is just so cool that it'll be hard...
Anyway, thanks again, and take care.
Sincerely,
Brandon (Âme Errante 04:22, 22 June 2006 (UTC))

Well, I added a new image to the portal. I suppose the question now is: how long before we add a new article and image? Should this be a once a month thing, a once a week thing, or what? Also, if we want to cycle the articles and images automatically, I have a bit of php from a site I wrote a while back that will allow us to set up a queue such that the articles are cycled based on the date... I just have to ask Wikipedia about implementing Perl on their servers... -Âme Errante 05:24, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Refrigeration pages

I hope to organize the pages on refrigeration and air conditioning. My working outline is User:Tom harrison/ToDo#Refrigeration pages. I'd appreciate input on how to proceed and what pages to include. Feel free to add to that list or change it. If there is enough interest, I'll make a seperate page somehwere for discussion. Tom Harrison Talk 14:09, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Engineering by Country

Hey I suggest for this portal to add a section were a list of countries is, which those link to articles detailing ifo about engineers and their invents. All this because there are such many invents developed on all countries through history.--Walter Humala 01:17, 23 August 2006 (UTC)--Walter Humala 22:06, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mechanical Engineering Page Rework

I am currently planning on reworking the entire Mechanical engineering page as it is clearly in need of work. I plan to use the layout for Electrical engineering as a template for the page. If anyone would like to collaborate on this with me in a more organized way than just editing feel free to contact me on my talk page. Jeb8828 04:06, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Temporary page for WikiProject Engineering created

A temporary page for a future WikiProject Engineering has been cretaed at User:Tbo 157/WikiProject Engineering. Interested users should add their name to the list and are encouraged to help improve the page so that it is ready to be moved to the Wikipedia space when there are enough participants. Cheers! Raime 23:50, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

The official project page has now been created at WP:ENGINEERING. Any one who interested should sign their name on the participant list, as we really need more members. Thank you! Rai-me 20:49, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Picture

I followed Image:Speed1c.png from the Energy portal because it looked fascinating, but couldn't find it anywhere on the page. It's such an excellent pic, we should have it on the page somewhere (as per Energy Portal). Dhatfield (talk) 19:18, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Where are the chemical engineers?

I was stunned by the absense of Chem Eng from the lead description. Are we called something else in the rest of the world? Dhatfield (talk) 19:26, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
