English Freakbeat, Volume 6 is a compilation album in the English Freakbeat series that has been issued in CD format. This is actually the reissue of the Pebbles, Volume 6 LP as a CD; it was shifted from the Pebbles series to the English Freakbeat series, since it is the only Pebbles album to feature British music.

[edit] Release Data
The album was released as a CD in 1996 (as #AIP-CD-1055), actually before the release of English Freakbeat, Volume 4 and English Freakbeat, Volume 5 on CD.
[edit] Vinyl-Only Tracks and CD Bonus Tracks
The English Freakbeat LPs and CDs have most tracks in common, although not always in the same order, and the same is true in the reissue of Pebbles, Volume 6 as English Freakbeat, Volume 6. In most cases, some of the LP tracks were not included on the CDs. Also, the CD bonus tracks are not always at the end of the album. Thus, for the sake of clarity, we have shown track listings for both editions of the album.
In this case, two songs on the LP are not included on the CD: "Leave My Kitten Alone" by the First Gear and a cover of the Bo Diddley classic, "Here 'Tis". Additionally, "Singing the Blues" by the Rats is omitted, though the Jason Eddie & the Centremen performance of this song is included on the CD in place of their song on the LP.
[edit] Notes on the Tracks
The following information was taken primarily from the liner notes. Twink was one of the members of The Fairies, an under-appreciated British rhythm & blues band; Twink would later be one of the founding members of a very different band, the Pink Fairies.
Members of the Cheynes include Mick Fleetwood, co-founder of Fleetwood Mac, as well as Peter Bardens and Phil Sawyer. They released several singles between 1963 and 1965.
"Leave My Kitten Alone" is a celebrated Beatles rarity that is one of the standout tracks on the first Beatles Anthology collection.
The real name of the front man for Jason Eddie and the Centremen is Al Wycherley, the brother of Billy Fury, a pop star in the late 1950's. Their experimental treatment of "Singing the Blues" was released in the U.S. by Capitol Records in June 1966.
The music by Bo and Peep was recorded in 1964, and the band is mainly the Rolling Stones plus others that might have included Gene Pitney and Phil Spector; this is an unexpectedly tuff treatment of the well known ballad. The final cut on the CD is a rambling recitation by Kim Fowley about a British coastal resort town, which is performed more or less to the tune of House of the Rising Sun.
Both sides of the only single by Chicago Line are included. Among the bandmembers are Mike Patto, later of Timebox and Patto, plus drummer Viv Prince, formerly of the Pretty Things. Patto was also a member of the Frays – see English Freakbeat, Volume 2.
