[edit] Admissions
Currently the institute runs UG courses in eight branches. Admissions to UG programme is done into four categories
Students with Rajasthan domicile have to appear in Rajasthan Pre Engineering Test (RPETEAP) and based on the merit in the test they get the chance to take admission in different branches.
Some seats are reserved for the students having domicile other than Rajasthan. The selection is purely based on the merit list of the All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE), conducted by C.B.S.E on behalf of M.H.R.D., New Delhi.
Beside this, two seats are reserved for Non Resident Indian (NRI) students. They can take admissions by paying annual fees in U.S dollars.
There is also a provision for admission of Diploma Holders in second year. Admission to this category is done by Department of Technical Education Govt. of Rajasthan on the basis of merit in Diploma course. Beside regular UG programs institute runs part time PG courses for employed personals. Classes for these are held in evening and on holidays. Admission to PG program is generally held in the month of July every year through Newspaper Advertisement.
For admissions in PG program the candidate must fulfill following requirements -
1. He/She must have secured at least 55% marks in graduation, and
2. He/She must have at least 2 years of experience
[edit] Campus
UCE is located on the outskirts of Kota on the banks of Chambal river. The location of campus is very peaceful, pleasant, safe and ideal for all-round development of future engineers. The campus is spread over an area of 385 acres and comprises 5 academic blocks,1 administrative block,1 library building,1 gymnasium,1 building for proctor, training and placement activities, separate electrical and mechanical workshops and laboratories. Campus houses all essential amenities like bank, post office, dispensary, shopping center etc. There are four boys and one girl hostel with all necessary amenities like food and recreation facilities. To encourage sports a gymnasium, three indoor badminton halls, a football and an athletic ground have been build. Residential quarters have been provided to faculty members and supporting staff. [edit] Technical Activities
Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE)
The IETE is India's leading recognised professional society devoted to the advancement of Science and Technology of Electronics, Telecommunication & IT. Founded in ECK in 2004 (for the second time). The Institution provides leadership in Scientific a Technical areas of direct importance to the national development and economy. The objectives of IETE focus on advancing electro-technology. The IETE conducts and sponsors technical meetings, conferences, symposia, and exhibitions all over India, publishes technical journals and provides continuing education as well as career advancement opportunities to its members.
Industry - Institute Interaction Cell
With increasing global scenario, there is always a need for the interaction between industry and institutes. UCE (erstwhile ECK) strives for closer and intensive interaction and partnership with industry to take-up projects of direct relevance to local industrial environment to meet national goals.
Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE)
ISTE is the organization working for the improvement of technical institutions in India. The institute has full fledged chapter and a student chapter of ISTE. Major activities of ISTE chapters include curriculum development, organising seminars, conferences and short term courses on topic of relevance to latest technical developments.
Recently a short term course on "Finite Element Techniques" have been organised for the teachers of various Engineering Colleges of India.
The institute has active chapters of IEEE society and Vivekananda Kendra.
[edit] Cultural Activities
Techlaunch[2]
Techlaunch is the national level paper and poster presentation and is organised annually. Students form various engineering institutes participate in this event. It started in 2005. This event is organised by Third and final year students.
Anukriti
Anukriti is the main cultural event of the institute and is organised annually in the month of February. Students from various colleges participate in this event. Moreover, many cultural weekends are organised from time to time.
SPIC MACAY
SPIC MACAY is an active chapter of the society for the promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture among Youth. An active chapter of SPIC MACAY is functioning in the institution since 1986. It organises several concerts and lectures cum demonstrations by renowned artists every year
[edit] Social Activities
National Service Scheme (NSS) NSS provides the most diversified opportunities to students to upgrade their personalities through participation in variety of social and community service activities. Student volunteers also visit the slum dwellers for educating the illiterate and to help them in understanding the importance of personal hygiene.
National Cadet Corps (NCC) The institute has a full fledged NCC[3] unit namely 14th Raj Bn, NCC Kota, whit Under Officer as company head.
ECK is the only government engineering college to have NCC with a cadet strength of over 60. Besides regular activities like parades and classes on weekend, NCC is also responsible for conducting welfare activities in the college premises such as tree plantations, blood donation, etc.
[edit] Placements
The institute assists in placement of final year students. The main recruiters are IT companies, however other companies too visit the campus regularly. Some of the companies visiting campus are Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys Technologies, Mahindra British Telecom, L&T,Cummins Research and Technology India Limited, Vedanta, Impetus Technologies, Cognizant Technology Solutions, HCL Technologies,IBM, Secure Meters etc. In the 2006 batch 80% of the eligible final year students were placed successfully.
