Category talk:English mythology
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
English mythology section is not needed as A) English Folklore is a category that deals with the same stories and B) 'English mythology' usually refers to Anglo-Saxon mythology outside of wikipedia. Either have Anglo-Saxon mythology or English mythology, not both.
I am recommending this for deletion as it is pointless and only contained Celtic myths, instead of the myths of the English (Anglo-Saxons). Whether the English have celtic blood as well as Germanic is unimportant as the English are Anglo-Saxons and thus Germanic, so including more Germanic tales in the category couldn't hurt! Also claiming that Celtic myths are English is unfair on both English people and Gaelic people. The English mainly adopted Celtic stories later on and they are certainly not of English origin. Myths like King Arthur remain in the 'British Mythology' category as he is Celtic of origin (or Welsh) but featured in English tales. He shouldn't be confined to English, Irish or Scottish mythology categories. I think it is fair having him in the Welsh category as he is obviously Welsh, however, he should be under British myths as well.
It looks as if the person who created this category wasn't aware of the English Folklore, Anglo-Saxon mythology, or Folklore of the United Kingdom category.
