End-plate potential

End-plate potential (EPP) is the postsynaptic potential induced at the neuromuscular junction by the opening of the Nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. The EPP is not an action potential, but it partially depolarizes the membrane and can initiate an action potential in the postsynaptic cell.
Miniature endplate potentials (MEPPs) are spontaneous depolarizations of consistent amplitude in the absence of nerve stimulation. They are very small, brief depolarisations (~0.5mV) which occur even when there has been no action potential in the nerve. An EPP is about the sum of 150 MEPPS.
