Hi, I've reverted a couple of your edits where you've recently changed Neman to Nemunas. I'm not sure why you did this, but the reasons for my reverts is that the English name of the river is Neman and we should be using English, not Lithuanian in en.wiki. Well, I disagree.
1. Neman is not English, it's Russian.
2. Term Nemunas River is used in English quite widely (not by Lithuanians but by English speaking authors, try print.google.com)
3. No agreement regarding Nemunas/Neman in Wiki has been reached (that is known to me).
4. When article is about modern realities (not historical battles, crossings of Neman, Normandia-Neman and etc.) I don't see why Nemunas can't be used while writing about Lithuanian geography.Encyclopaedia Editing Dude 16:57, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

This would be both inconsistent and unnecessarily confusing. Probably also would lead to revert wars (with the likes of myself) and waste of time. Again, I would suggest you consider wither to rename the article or accept to use its name. --Lysytalk 17:58, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
For example river Nemunelis, in Latvia is called Memele, would you sugest to write Nemunelis in Latvian articles (such as Bauska)? Or vice versa? That would be really inconsistent and unnecessarily confusing. Same case is here. Encyclopaedia Editing Dude 18:06, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
No, this is different, as Nemunėlis/Mēmele does not have an English name. If it had, then the English name would have been used. --Lysytalk 18:36, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Well, it is, according to e.g. Britannica. Also, why is the Wikipedia article named Neman River if it's not correct ? You're right that Nemunas (as well as Niemen) is often used in English, but once we have standardised on Neman as the English form, we should try to use it consistently. --Lysytalk 19:02, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
National Geographic seems not to know about this standartised form because in their atlas http://plasma.nationalgeographic.com/mapmachine/index.html then I zoom in Kaunas area I clearly see Nemunas, not Neman
AND http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/refpages/search.aspx?q=Alytus very strange, but Encarta isn't aware of those standarts either. Alytus seems to lie not on Neman, but on Nemunas River. Encyclopaedia Editing Dude 20:03, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Because Nemunas is widely used in context of Lithuanian geography, as I said earlier. Example again: Article is called Nemunelis (but Bauska is on Memele), article is called Neman River, but Alytus is on Nemunas (http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/refpages/search.aspx?q=Alytus). OK, We'll not convince each other at the moment, let's leave it for now. I only wanted to note that I would certainly support renaming Neman to Nemunas article. I've also created Nemunas Delta article as a compromise that can be used to link in the case of the articles like Rusnė. --Lysytalk 17:06, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
As for me renaming Neman to Nemunas is not the first issue, or even not needed, although using both names in both states where it flows would be an easy and simple solution. And this is the case, when Both names in the lead are useful. --Lokyz 19:45, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
