The Soviet R-7 rocket was the world's first Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) and went onto to create the world's most successful space launcher. The basic design of the rocket has not changed greatly over the years, with the main changes between the various types of rockets in the R-7 family being the addition of extra upper stages.

All the rockets consist of a core to which are straped four rockets. For the Vostok rockets, an upper stage is added. For the Voskhod and Soyuz rockets, a larger upper stage is added. Finally for the Molniya rockets, a third stage is added.

The rockets in the R-7 family that were launched are:

  • R-7
  • Molniya 8K78
  • Vostok 8K72
  • Vostok 8K72K
