Morecambe & Wise : Encore!

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Morecambe & Wise: Encore! was a series of four shows compiling the best of Morecambe and Wise's work produced for Thames Television between 1978 and 1983 and marked the first time that any of this footage had been repeated since original broadcast. The consultant for the material was Eric's son Gary Morecambe who selected the strongest material from the later shows in order to dispel the myth that their work after the BBC era was not as good. The shows aired at irregular times.

New opening titles were created, featuring the partnership as star-shaped cartoon figures of themselves that ultimately turn into "M" and "W" shapes whilst the remaining letters appear around them, and the word "encore" appears as if stamped over the top.

The music for the programs is an arrangement of their old Two Of A Kind theme, but works in aspects of the later Bring Me Sunshine motif with which the pair were best associated. It is assumed that the new sequences were made up as the original ones are somewhat dated, but lack of repeats and/or DVD releases of their later work makes this difficult to summise. To date these shows remain the only repeat of the post-1977 work of the double act.
