The Encyclopedia of Life Sciences is an encyclopedia of biology published in paper and online by John Wiley & Sons

ELS has both a 20-volume print edition and an online edition. The online edition was launched in April 2001, with the print edition appearing in January 2002. At the end of 2004 ELS was acquired by John Wiley & Sons from the Nature Publishing Group.

Articles are written by academics in their respective fields. As of April 2007, it contained over 4000 articles. In addition, articles have also been added from the Nature Encyclopedia of the Human Genome (EHG), available online for the first time.

Full access requires a subscription, though free sample articles are available.
