[edit] Emsdetten school shooting

Geschwister Scholl School attack
Location Flag of Germany Emsdetten, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
Date November 20, 2006
9:30 AM (UTC+1)
Attack type School shooting
Weapon(s) Sawn-off rifles
Deaths 1 (including the perpetrator)
Injured 37
Perpetrator(s) Sebastian Bosse

On November 20, 2006, at about 9:30 AM local time, an 18-year old gunman, Bastian Bosse, who was a former student graduate in 2005, entered the Geschwister Scholl School (a Realschule) firing several shots and injuring 27 people (16 of these were policemen injured by a smoke grenade while entering the school). Bosse was found then with a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. He had left an Internet posting and a video message from his parents' living room shortly before the attack. Bosse stated that he hated people and was taught to be a "loser" at this school. He also left a suicide note on his Internet homepage, which is now closed. [1][2]

The event caused renewed demands for a prohibition of violent computer games (which called "Killerspiele" by the german media and politicians) in Germany, even though the suicide note shows no connection between computer games and the shooting, citing social reasons instead.
