Empire's End is the eighth and final book in Chris Bunch and Allan Cole's The Sten Adventures.

The book begins moments after Sten prevents Adm Mason from destroying a planet to cover up the Emperor's poor handling of it's internal politics. It describes once-Admiral and Ambassador Sten's attempt to remove Emperor Raschid from power and his moral dilemma about what to do afterward.
In an extended flashback, we discover how the Emperor got started, how he became immortal, and the location of AM2, the source of the Empire's power (Politically, and practically) for the last few thousand years.
