[edit] The Employee Assistance Professionals Association
The Employee Assistance Professionals Association (EAPA) is the world’s largest and oldest membership organization for professionals working for employee assistance programs (EAPs). With members [1] in over 30 countries around the globe, EAPA is a source of information and support for and about the employee assistance profession. EAPA’s mission is to promote the highest standards of EA practice and the continuing development of employee assistance professionals, programs and services. EAPA publishes the Journal of Employee Assistance [2], hosts professional conferences, including the Annual World EAP Conference [3] and offers training [4] and other resources [5] to fulfill its mission.
[edit] Governance
EAPA's governance [6] body, the Board of Directors [7], is the policy setting body of the Association and by extension the EA profession. Additionally, the Board of Directors monitors the activities of committees, panels and task forces, approves the budget, and develops value-added relationships with other organizations and groups. The officers of the Association are the President, the President-Elect, the Secretary-Treasurer, the Immediate Past President, and the CEO. As a group, the officers make up the Executive Committee of the Board, which acts on behalf of the Board between meetings on matters requiring Board action. The voting members of the Board are elected either by the entire voting membership or by voting members in their respective geographically defined constituency. The Chief Executive Officer and the chair of the Employee Assistance Certification Commission (EACC) are both ex officio, non-voting members. The Board hires the CEO; the EACC chair is selected by the Commission. hahaha
[edit] EAPA Chapters and Branches
EAPA members are supported by more than 90 chapters [8] in the United States and by a growing number of branches [9] worldwide. These organizations provide localized services to EA professionals, ranging from professional networking to continuing education.
[edit] What is employee assistance?
Employee Assistance [10] is the work organization's resource that utilizes specific core technologies to enhance employee and workplace effectiveness through prevention, identification, and resolution of personal and productivity issues.
[edit] What is an employee assistance program (EAP)?
Employee assistance programs (EAP)s are worksite-based program designed to assist (1) work organizations in addressing productivity issues and (2) "employee clients" in identifying and resolving personal concerns, including, but not limited to, health, marital, family, financial, alcohol, drug, legal, emotional, stress, or other personal issues that may affect job performance.
[edit] EAP Core Technology
The employee assistance program Core Technology [11] represents the essential core components of employee assistance programs. These components combine to create a unique approach to improving work organization productivity by addressing "employee client" personal concerns affecting job performance.
[edit] Standards and Guidelines for EAPs
EAPA maintains the Standards and Guidelines for EAPs [12], setting out both essential and recommended components of an EAP, including the intended effect and outcome of implementing each standard. The Association also publishes the EAPA Code of Ethics [13].
[edit] Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP) Credential
EAPA, through the Employee Assistance Certification Commission (EACC) administers and oversees the granting of the Certified Employee Assistance Professional [14] (CEAP) Credential. The CEAP credential [15], is the only credential representing mastery of the Employee Assistance body of knowledge, and has become recognized as the hallmark of excellence within the EA field. EAPA maintains a directory [16] of individuals who have earned the CEAP credential.
[edit] Annual World EAP Conference
EAPA's Annual World EAP Conference [17] is an intensive and comprehensive learning and networking opportunity for employee assistance professionals. Every year, thousands of employee assistance professionals from all over the world come together to share state of the art knowledge about the profession. The conference also provides numerous networking, recognition and educational opportunities, not only for employee assistance professionals, but for others interested in the field.
[edit] Journal of Employee Assistance
The Journal of Employee Assistance [18] is published quarterly by EAPA for all members. The Journal provides EAPA members with insights into trends and developments affecting the workplace and the workforce. Back issues of the Journal are archived [19] online for easy access by members.
[edit] The EAPA Learning Center
In addition to the multiplicity of in person educational opportunities offered by EAPA’s Annual World EAP Conference and EAPA local chapters and branches, the Association offers synchronous and asynchronous online learning opportunities through the EAPA Learning Center [20], . Members and non-members alike can virtually attend webinars [21], take online courses [22], and attend presentations [23] from the previous year’s Annual Conference.
