Emirates Film Competition

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An official Emirati competition targeted to encourage local film making and film production, this competition includes all short-movie categories such as: narrative/fiction, docs and animation amongst others. The competition is divided into two parts: students and general. Reason behind this is to give UAE students from schools, colleges & universities a chance to screen their films and have them compete for valuable prizes. At the outskirts of this competition, you will find a number of film-showings of Arab and international movies, together with lectures and specialised seminars.

This year (2008) the film competition has bundled itself with an Emirates Film Grant to support its local filmmakers to produce feature length films. Amongst the rules of the competition it is stated that the writer or the producer can be non UAE nationals, though the pitch is only applicable to nationals. The film must be produced by October 1st 2008. Moreover, the deadline of entering a film into the Emirates Film Grant is February the 7th.
