Emir of Kano
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Emir of Kano is the traditional ruler of the Nigerian city of Kano, capital of the modern Kano State. Ado Bayero is the current emir.
[edit] History of the position
The first King of Kano was a Hausa known as Bagauda (said to be grandson of the mythical Bayajidda), and he ruled for about 66 years. In 1805, Fulani Islamic leader Usman dan Fodio conquered Kano, and further rulers were Fulani emirs.
