Not much is known about Alan Digorsky in public. His name, if genuine, would indicate that he's an ethnic Ossetian. When Kataib al-Khoul's existence was mentioned for the first time he was notified as its leader. He went by the Nom de guerre Emir Saad until he was mentioned by his name in 2005 when he was apointed by Sheikh Abdul Halim to lead the Ossetian sector in the then established Caucasian Front.[1] Since the creation of the Caucasus Emirate in 2007 his forces strife to end Russian control of North Ossetia and establish an independent Ossetian state.
Although Ossetian Muslims are a minority group in the republic, Digorsky has enjoyed relative succes in his guerrilla campaign. In 2006 his group downed a helicopter carrying high-ranking military officials, resulting in the death of 15 men. His group has also claimed responsibility for numerous assassinations, including the assassination of the head of North Ossetia's anti-organized crime unit (UBOP, formerly known as RUBOP), Mark Metsaev, in March 2008.
