Eminabad

Eminabad or Eminābād is a town in Gujranwala District, Punjab, Pakistan.

Eminabad is an old town, located 15 kilometres south of Gujrariwala, is linked to Grand Trunk Road and Eminabad railway station by four-kilometres stretch of metalled road. It has three historical shrines.

[edit] Gurdwara Rod Sahib

Gurdwara Rod Sahib is located by a metalled road one and a half kilometer from the town. Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhi had stayed on the seat of pebbles at this place and it was from here that he was taken as a prisoner by the invading armies of Babur, in Samvat 1578.

An imposing Gurdwara has been built over the place. A large pond and other buildings make it more graceful. A large estate worth Rs.5000 per annum and 9 squares of agricultural land is endowed to the Gurdwara from the era of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Visakhi and Kattak Puranmashi festivals used to be held in the past, only Visakhi festival is held now where people from Gujranwala and its adjoining areas participate with fanfare.

The building of the Gurdwara was falling apart but the Govt of Pakistan stemmed the rot by constructing its boundary wall at a cost of thousands of rupees. Now government of pakistan has Constructed a new building worth rs of 20 millions and sikhs personals has been deployed to look after its Maintenance. Eminabad town committee was established in 1882 and hindu was elected its first chairman. After partition shaikh nazir husain bhindari was elected its fist muslim chairman. Population of this town is more than fifty thousand. Once dewan was a main powerful tribe here the remain of there grand buildings tell reflects its glorious history. Apart from facts that pakistan came in to being in 1947,the town politics is moving around local and mahajar community. Rajput, arain are main tribes. before partition there was only one high school in the town but now there is tow high school for boys and one higher secondary school for girls. due to neglect of concern authorties all ancient buildings and places are in danger. Once eminabad was know for its fruits,pots and Pigeons. There is less than 50 percent literacy rate.
