Emilio Lissón (*Arequipa, 1878 - †España, 1961). Archbishop of Lima, known as a model of piety.

He was born in the city of Arequipa, of a catholic family. He entered into the Congregation of Saint Vincent de Paul, being ordained priest in Paris in 1909.
[edit] Bishopric
In 1909, there was nominated an Archbishop of Chachapoyas, a charge that he exercised until 1918, the year in which he assumed the direction of the Church of Lima assuming the Archbishop's charge of Lima and Primate of Peru. In 1911 he visited the General Curia of the Pasionistas in Rome, requesting help for the work in the diocese of Chachapoyas for what, in 1913 there came 6 priests and 6 brothers who worked until 1918.
[edit] Episcopal Work
During his management 5 minor seminars were created for the primary and secondary education, as the " Saint's Day-school Toribio ", entrusted of him Go out for the Brothers, that came to Peru in 1922 before his personal order in the House Generalicia of Brussels in 1920. He promoted also the activity and formation, of character more ecclesiastic, of the Biggest Seminar of Saint Toribio.
He organized and presided at several episcopal assemblies, as well as at a Diocesan Synod (1926) and a Provincial Council (1927).
There protected the foundation of the catholic publication The Tradition and the creation of the Catholic Action. It had no success in his project to found the catholic university " Bartolomé Herrera ", to what his support drank to the creation of the Catholic University founded by the Father of the Sacred Hearts Jorge Dintilhac.
He promoted the creation of the Apostolic Prefecture of San Gabriel of the Cashew, with head office in Yurimaguas. in charge of the Pasionistas. In 1922, it had to his charge the blessing of you walk of massive silver of the Master of the Miracles.
As religious many of his epoch, it had the idea that for dinamizar the Church was indispensable the official support of the State. During the Government of Augusto Leguía, he tried this approach. In February, 1929, in ceremony headed by the catholic hierarchy of Lima, the Apostolic Forerunner Gaetano Cicognani, granted to the President Leguía the title of " Gentleman of the Supreme Military Order of Christ ". Also it tried to dedicate the Peruvian nation to Jesús's Sacred Heart, in frustrated ceremony of May 23, 1923. The march of workers and students against this consecration was directed against Leguía (I presented at once) but it reached to the Church for his closeness to the diet.
After the overthrow of Leguía, before the internal pressures, it left Lima with direction to Rome, presenting later his resignation supervised by Archbishop of Lima.
His successor was a Monsignor Mariano Holguín as apostolic manager between 1931 and 1933, year in which Monsignor Pedro Pascual Farfán assumed the Archbishop's charge of Lima.
It moved then to Spain, devoting itself to compile papers of the History of the Church in Peru. He dies in 1961.
