Emile Claus

Emile Claus (September 27, 1849June 14, 1924) was a Belgian painter.

Emile Claus was born on September 27, 1849 in the West Flemish village Sint-Eloois-Vijve, located on the bank of the river Lys. Later he studied at the Academy of Antwerp. Under the influence of Claude Monet, he developed a style that has been characterized as luminism. In 1904 he started the artist group Vie et Lumière (English: Life and Light). He died in Astene on June 14, 1924.
