Talk:EMC Celerra
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I only wrote this because I deal with customers that have to use Celerra all day long (whereas I do not) and I was shocked to find that a web page likely being served by a NAS possibly running such software was nothing more than a mention in the EMC page. I would be honored if anyone with a better familiarity with NAS administration could flesh this out, as I do not have the spare half a million to test one.

[edit] All-righty-then
I've spent the past few months working with EMC rolling out and then admining a Celerra/CLARiiON NAS environment. In fact, I had a putty window open to my Celerra when I did the revising at work. I'm no wordsmith, but this ought to give those better in the know a good starting point.
For the sake of clarity, a Celerra is not a piece of software--it's a big honking cabinet. The Celerra itself runs a hardened version of Linux. Your customers that "use Celerra all day long" likely have a Celerra and are using the Celerra Manager (basic web GUI that comes with the thing) or the Celerra Control Station (much more comprehensive and capable web GUI/hosted application that costs extra money).
In any case, glad you started the article, and glad I could contribute. 69.91.53.188 04:48, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Thank you so much!
That is exactly what I was hoping to see (including finding out I was totally wrong)! I appreciate your hard work. Also, you are totally a wordsmith -- them's good words all up in there.

[edit] Helping out
I have updated this page to reflect the changes in the Celerra nomenclature, models, and features.

Actually, I thought this was a well written article that provides a high level overview of how EMC's Celerra works. We had a rather major breakdown of the data mover and I heard the technical explanations which went over my head. This article allowed me to turn the tech-speak into manager-speak.
