Embusen
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Embusen is a Japanese term used in karate to refer to the exact spot where a kata had began. It is also commonly spelt enbusen.
The embusen line varies for each kata. It is, for example, a straight line for the Tekki series of kata. It follows the form of a capital letter 'I' for Heian sandan. More advanced kata, Kanku dai and Gojushiho dai for example, have increasingly more complex embusen lines. For any kata, the embusen line is fixed and must be followed exactly.
