The Embassy of the United States in Wellington, New Zealand along with the consulate general in Auckland provides assistance to American citizens and issues travel visas to foreign nationals who wish to visit the United States.

The current U.S Ambassador to New Zealand is William McCormick who who presented his credentials to the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Helen Clark on November 9, 2005.

There have been many United States Ambassadors to New Zealand since the post was created in 12 October 1838.

The Embassy is located in the urban, inner-city Wellington neighbourhood of Thorndon, minutes away from the "Beehive", the official government buildings of the New Zealand Government and the Chinese Embassy and the Wellington Botanic Garden. It is easily accessible via the Wellington Urban Motorway, part of New Zealand State Highway Network, linking Wellington and Auckland. Between these two transport links is Wellington Railway Station, the southern terminus of the North Island Main Trunk railway, and also the base for suburban commuter lines to northern Wellington suburbs.
