EMAP South Yorkshire

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

EMAP South Yorkshire is a local commercial digital radio multiplex in the United Kingdom, which serves South Yorkshire, north Derbyshire and north Nottinghamshire.

EMAP South Yorkshire is transmitted on frequency block 11C from the Tapton Hill (Sheffield) transmitter and the Clifton transmitter to the east of Rotherham near the M18. The multiplex axed the pop music station Smash! Hits to accommodate travel information based station Traffic Radio. EMAP was the only applicant for the licence by the closing date of July 13 1999 having been advertised on March 12 1999. The service began on October 26 2000, having had the licence awarded on September 2 1999.

There were possibilities of two other transmitters at Chesterfield and Ardsley, but these were never used.
