Talk:Elvis Perkins
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Let's hope this article stays around. I tried creating the article a few months ago, but it got deleted. -- Mattbrundage 20:45, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
- I remember that version. It had a lot less information than this one. We get a lot of articles submitted on aspiring musicians who haven't really achieved anything yet, so if an article is created that doesn't clearly assert notability it's not likely to last long. Any article that starts off with "Elvis Perkins is a fledgling unsigned signer/songwriter from North Smithfield, Rhode Island" isn't getting off to a good start. This article mentions touring with name groups, as well as a record deal. Big difference. Fan-1967 21:36, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
- I think this article stays as he's gaining notoriety after non-stop touring at larger venues throughout the U.S. this year. He'll also be touring Europe in early 2007 with My Morning Jacket, another noteworthy band. I took some photos from his Dec. 8, 2006 show at Mercury Lounge, and would be happy to add one to the article, but have never edited a Wikipedia entry before. Any advice and/or instruction would be appreciated.--Lbirdsey 21:32, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
The article currently reads: Perkins' melancholy songs reflect the personal tragedy he's experienced over the years. I'd say this violates Wikipedia's POV. Has anyone ever seen an interview where Perkins draws a concrete connection between his life's hardships with his melancholy music? It may seem a logical deduction, but without any hard evidence, it is just one person projecting their opinions on the music.--Lbirdsey 02:47, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- The article definitely needs work. Reads like it may have been written by someone close to him, and lacks encyclopedic and neutral tone. Fan-1967 03:51, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- Did anyone see the Filter Magazine interview of Perkins in the most recent issue (#23, with The Shins on the cover). I don't have it handy, but it could have useful information with which to update this article.--Lbirdsey 19:35, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
