Elsie Lappin

Elsie Lappin(1906-1991) was a fictional character in the Granada Television serial Coronation Street. She spoke the first words in the first episode, broadcast on December 9 1960. Lappin was the soon-to-depart owner of the corner shop and was seen introducing new owner Florrie Lindley to the various neighbours. During that two-day time, she and Florrie ended up friends and was also witness to a row between Ena Sharples and Christine Hardman. Elsie Lappin was played by Maudie Edwards.
