Elsa Canchaya

Elsa Victoria Canchaya Sánchez is a Peruvian politician and a Congresswoman representing Junín for the 2006-2011 term. Canchaya was elected to congress as a member of the National Unity party. She was suspended from congress for four months in May 2007 when it was determined that one of her assistants on the government payroll was actually her housekeeper. She was temporally replaced by former congressman Hildebrando Tapia, from the National Unity party.
In March 2008 Canchaya was given a three-year suspended prison sentence and ordered to pay 1000 New Soles in another trial different from the congress affair.[1] She is nowadays appealing the sentence.
