Hello! I'm Elonka Dunin. I am a writer, game developer, cryptologist, webmistress, public speaker, world-traveller, and appreciator of all kinds of different subcultures.  :)

I've had a Wikipedia account since September 16, 2005, made my 1000th edit on January 19, 2006, and was approved as an administrator on December 14, 2007. As of June 2008 I have created or substantially expanded over 325 Wikipedia articles, and have made around 43,000 edits,[6] which I guess puts me somewhere in the top 200 of active Wikipedians.

Much of my time is spent either writing/improving articles, or working on some of the above WikiProjects. I also occasionally help out at some of the other language Wikis (see my list at left), but mostly I spend time in the English Wikipedia. Previous to becoming an admin, I especially enjoyed helping out with categorization, trying to ensure that every single article either has a category, or is at least flagged as needing one. Now that I have administrator access, I am helping out in other areas, such as reviewing the Wikipedia dispute resolution process, and helping out at Arbitration Enforcement. I am also one of the people chosen by the Arbitration Committee for the Working group on ethnic and cultural edit wars, and am experimenting with some different techniques on addressing this chronic problem.

Of the articles that I've written or expanded, the ones that I am most proud of include: Featured article Knights Templar, Featured article Pauline Fowler, Good article Dirty Dancing, Good article Fustat, The White Bird, Franco-Mongol alliance, SS Kronprinz Wilhelm, Alfred Niezychowski, Saint Raphael Kalinowski, Black Stone, Eric Bloom, August Czartoryski, Ed Bradley, Hajj, and Isra and Mi'raj.

For my day job, I'm a professional game developer working in St. Charles, Missouri, and a published author. My book The Mammoth Book of Secret Codes and Cryptograms was published internationally in early 2006. As a hobby, I maintain some popular websites on the subject of cryptography, especially famous unsolved codes and the CIA's Kryptos sculpture, and I show up on TV or in the news every so often. I'm also a public speaker, usually giving talks on the subjects of games, Wikipedia, or cryptography.

Wikipedia is currently my #1 hobby, and I can't seem to get enough of writing articles and helping behind-the-scenes. :) I think Wikipedia is an amazing concept that is going to continue to grow quite rapidly. I often scan through the new articles that are flowing in at a rate of thousands per day, and I am humbled by the sheer quantity of information that's accumulating in this massive project. I am very proud to be a part of it.
