I think we need a reference for how Benson's 1938 defeat was the "end of the Farmer-Labor Party and progressive politics in Minnesota." The Farmer-Labor Party was active for several more years before merging with the Democrats to from the D.F.L., and progressive politics, at least relative to other U.S. states, could be said to continue in Minnesota to this day.
