Elm Park is a place in the London Borough of Havering, East London. It is a suburban development situated 14.3 miles (23.0 km) east north-east of Charing Cross. Unlike the nearby suburbs of Upminster and Hornchurch, Elm Park was not developed until after the arrival of the electrified District Line in 1935. The original housing development, built from the 1930s onwards, was planned as a new community.
Elm Park is served by Elm Park tube station and has London Bus services to nearby Romford, Rainham and Hornchurch. Regeneration linked to the Thames Gateway project has been mooted and recent changes such as the installation of new street lighting have been made. The East London Transit includes an option to serve the area.
Elm Park has a main retail area - "The Broadway" - with a selection of small supermarkets, some independent clothes shops, two pharmacies, green-grocers, butchers, take-aways food shops and a pub. In the area there is a post office and a library. Nightlife in the area is limited.
Elm Park is served by the following churches: St Albans Catholic Church, St. Nicholas Church of England, The Baptist Church (who are back in their own church since the fire damage was repaired) Arise Metropolitan Assembly which meets at the annex of the Elm Park Community Assembly Hall on Eyhurst/St.Nicholas Avenue, Christ Life Church and Eagles Christian Connections. It is also in Elm Park that the London Metropolitan Assembly convened by Apostle George Akalonu meets each month to discuss issues of common interest to Faith, Civic and Community leaders.
Elm Park is predominantly white British, accounting for nearly 95 percent of the population. Like many other communities in the London Borough of Havering, the population is predominantly senior citizens and young people under 20 years. Mayland Clinics on the Upper Rainham Road is the main healthcare facility.
Open spaces in the area include Harrow Lodge Park, Hornchurch Country Park,Brettons Park and Eastbrookend Country Park of the Thames Chase forest.
