Ellis Haizlip

Ellis Haizlip (c. 1930 - January 25, 1991) was an African American theater and television producer. A 1954 graduate of Howard University, he helped many artists progress in their careers, including actress Anna Maria Horsford and singers Nicholas Ashford and Valerie Simpson. He served as executive producer of the Public Broadcasting Service television program Soul! from 1967 to 1973. He died of lung cancer in January 1991.[1] After his death, a number of his fellow artists, including writer Amiri Baraka, gathered in New York City to hold a performance in his memory.[2]
