Elliot B. Koffman, born May 7, 1942 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was a former chairman of the ACM Task Force for introductory programming methods courses, and author of a number of language texts in Modula-2, FORTRAN, in addition to his four editions of Pascal and Turbo Pascal.

While attending M.I.T. in 1963, Koffman was elected to the Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi honor societies and subsequently awarded his S.B.E.E. and S.M.E.E. in 1964. After graduating from M.I.T., Koffman attended the Case Institute of Technology where he received his Ph.D. in 1967. The same year, Koffman began work at the National Security Agency in Fort Meade, Maryland as an Electrical Engineer. He was promoted to Captain of the U.S. Army and assigned to the Defense Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C. from 1967-1969.

After leaving the Defense Intelligence Agency, Koffman began teaching at Temple University in 1974. Today, Koffman holds a position in the Computer Science department at Temple University. He was also a nominee for the Temple University Great Teacher Award in 1992.
