Barnstar

The Original Barnstar
For beating me to speedying a page, or reverting vandalism, many times. Congratulations! Matt - TheFearow 09:16, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
Yep, I know what you mean. It's even funner being beaten to pages at the top of a list, just created seconds ago :) You must have a fast internet connection! I'm at about 4Mbps, and you still beat me! Matt - TheFearow 09:25, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

SkyNorth Air

I've removed your CSD tags 2x now from this article...scheduled, commercial airlines, even small ones, are typically considered notable. AKRadeckiSpeaketh 19:17, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

194.83.172.29

Just as you were giving that School IP a warning for vandalizing Clackmannan, I listed them on WP:AIV for the consistent vandalism today. Just wanted to let you know. Jru Gordon 09:21, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

you said thanks on my talk page, just wanted to say you're welcome Jru Gordon 09:25, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Quick question

What warning should I put on the Talk Pages of people who blank out their talk pages to remove warnings? (ie-I warn someone about vandalism, they blank out their Talk Page to remove that warning) Jru Gordon 09:27, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

I was always under the impression that one can NOT delete warnings/blank their talk page to remove warnings.--Jru Gordon 09:35, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

ok thanks for clearing it up with that link Jru Gordon 09:41, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!

Hi Cattlegirl, just wanted to say thank you for deleting a bunch of the articles that I flagged. It's so nice to have admins who are really devoted to cleaning up vandalism! I appreciate it. Eliz81 10:00, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, you're welcome. And thanks in turn for flagging the articles in the first place! :) Cheers- CattleGirl talk 10:10, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
  • Hahaha ;-) dont worry. it's all good. i guess i should have spelled out the name instead of the abbreaviation(sp?) i cant spell either. so maybe it was a good idea! thanks.

AIV

Thank you for making a report at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators generally only block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. Thank you. Jmlk17 09:54, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

T Rhys Thomas

I think you'll find the edit I made to Cardiff Blues wasn't vandalism. T Rhys Thomas is now a redirect page, so I was correcting the redirect. I will now revert your edit to Cardiff Blues. - PeeJay 09:48, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

It seems the guy who posted before me has been blocked for 48 hours. There isn't really much you can do about people like that. Just ignore it and carry on doing your job. - PeeJay 10:03, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Personal Attacks

Those attack you received were very harsh, but wikipedia has a strong policy against personal attacks, in the event of persistent harsh personal attacks the user can be indef blocked without warning, you did the right think by reporting him to aiv, if it happens again report him to aiv and he will probably receive a long or indef block. --Lwarf Talk! 10:08, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Also the user seams to be a vandalism only account, so all the more chance of an indef block. --Lwarf Talk! 10:11, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Reply

No problem. You've dealt with the vandal in the right way, sometimes they get annoyed because their edits are reverted (obviously!), that's normal :) Blatant vandalism is always to be reported to AIV. No worries, just ignore them :) I'll keep an eye on that user. Have a nice day, Peacent 10:10, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Not at all, Eliz. Btw, I've blocked this user indefinitely owing to their making death threat. Sorry I didn't notice this earlier. Take care, Peacent 10:18, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Blocked as vandalism only account (Silly troll!) You're doing a great work :) Peacent 10:42, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Chuck E. Cheese

Yeah, I'm working on that now. I'm filing a RfA against the user now, unless you've already done that. It's my first day with TW too, so this is a good test of it, but it's getting confusing. I'm going to have to start manually doing it. Thanks! --HAL2008 talk 19:51, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Actually, I checked the timestamp, and technically he was issued the last warning about a minute or so after his last vandalism. I'm going to keep an eye on it, and start working on the page. I'm probably going to have to add an "inuse" to it, there is a crap load of vandalism in there. Thanks again! (TW IS awesome by the way)--HAL2008 talk 19:56, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
Oh! And by the way, I'm going to request protection for Chuck E. Cheese, do you think that's a good idea?--HAL2008 talk 20:04, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
Yep, request has been put in. Here it is. I only requested 3 days, but noted that it should be longer, but that I need enough time to fix the page w/o worrying about vandalism. Thanks for helping out! --HAL2008 talk 20:09, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
O.O WOW! Thanks for the barnstar! I'll put that in a subpage in a minute, thanks so much! I'm almost done removing the vandalism... but I still need someone to go through and make sure I didn't miss anything, if you could do that, it would be awesome! Thanks again! --HAL2008 talk 20:27, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
No problem! Borrow whatever layouts you want! I'm actually working on a new template and such for that, and I'd be more than happy to make you any custom things (templates, userboxes, etc.) that you want, just pop a request on my talk page! I'm actually going through and organizing my userpage into subpages right now, so it's not such a big drabble of stuff. I'm actually flattered that you borrowed the talk page info (green part), the rest of it was actually borrowed from other users, or taken from the large template directory. --HAL2008 talk 20:52, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Re Healthy Skepticism page

You objected to the promotional tone of my first article for Wikipedia. I cut things out & it has survived. So thank you, if this was your decision. Scientizzle added tags re notablility which I've attempted to address. Are you able to check what I've done and remove tags? He/she hasn't got around to it yet. RJ Clothier 02:12, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Re: NPOV. Having trouble with this. In your objection to: "It has concentrated recently on raising awareness amongst health professionals of their vulnerability to the distorting influence that marketing techniques have on their decisions", I am sure you are not disputing that that has been the focus of Healthy Skepticism's work. So you must be questioning either that health professionals are vulnerable or that the marketing has a distorting influence. I can cite 41 original studies from the medical literature showing that pharmaceutical promotion influences prescribing decisions (and why else would companies spend billions on it?) However a discussion of the issue within the article makes the article less about the organisation - but maybe that's what is necessary?

Re notability. Also a bit difficult, so any advice you can give is appreciated. Please see the article's discussion page. But also, as Healthy Skepticism works mainly in the professional sphere (journals, conferences) and the issues it deals with are fairly complex, the evidence of its influence is not abundant in the mainstream media. There are articles BY Healthy Skepticism in major medical journals about particular issues with drugs (including an editorial in the British Medical Journal), but the article is not about those issues. Members of the Healthy Skepticism executive are interviewed frequently by journalists seeking assistance & background information for stories about pharmaceutical companies/regulation/policy but that assistance is rarely acknowledged publicly. However I will try to work some more references TO Healthy Skepticism into the article. There are some.

Perhaps it is also worth noting that the systems currently in place for developing, manufacturing and marketing drugs affect the health of every person on the planet. Those like Healthy Skepticism who seek to bring about improvement in those systems work against enormous interests vested in the status quo. I think we could have quite a long discussion about the assumptions that inform the "neutral" point of view in this area.

Thanks for your help thus far. RJ Clothier 00:38, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks again for the thought you are putting in to helping me with this. It will take me some time to re-write. I will state the organisation's main aim as a quote from its mission statement, which is easy enough. Justifying the use of the word "misleading" in the rest of the article will need to be done in general terms, because it is not possible to explain in one article what was wrong with what is now hundreds of advertising claims the organisation has questioned in nearly 25 years of work. I chose the appetite stimulants and anabolic steroids because I thought it would be easy for the general public to understand that these were not suitable products to promote in a place like Bangladesh. To understand what is misleading about many of the claims made in promotion to health professionals, one needs to get into complex medical and statistical issues. But I will have a go at a general outline of the problem, and use phrasing such as “Healthy Skepticism believes …” Cheers RJ Clothier 23:49, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Regarding the changes.

Sorry about my changes to the Stefan Waggershausen article- I saw a ridiculous arrangement, and in a bout of exasperation from all the NPOV arrangements I have seen over time, I made the title even more ridiculous. Take note of the previous (and current) version's section title: 'Most favorite songs'. What the hell is that?

A change needed to be made, but I felt like being unproductive- I apologize for that.--24.127.219.82 10:19, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

New templates:

Hey, just to let you know, I made some templates out of the things I was using before. You can find them on my Templates and userboxes page. (if it's red, give me a few more minutes to finish it). It's basically the same thing that you borrowed from me to put on your main page, just better. --HAL2008 talk 17:12, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Anon IP question

Heya again CattleGirl! Everything's been going swimmingly in the reverting vandalism department since our last exchange. I was wondering about repeated abuse from specific anon IPs. I seemed to remember somewhere that you can tag the page with information about the provider. I looked up one such vandal online and found the information about the physical location and ISP. Should I add this info to the page and if so, how? Thanks again! :) Eliz81 19:51, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Hello once again!
I've had a look for the template you're talking about- do you mean Template:SharedIP? That's the one that's used most often, although at the bottom of the page there's some templates that branch of this, being more specific.
If you have the information, by all means add it to the talk page. As to how to add it, it depends on what template you're using- there's examples on the template page I linked above, depending on how specific your information is.
I hope that answered your question! Cheers- CattleGirl talk 04:50, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Scat Metha Deletion

You deleted my article on Scat Metha. Scat Metha was a Major League Baseball player for the Detroit Tigers. It is my understanding that, under the Wiki Baseball project, Wikipedia is seeking article on all Major League baseball players. My article on Scat Metha was part of that effort. Can you reverse the deletion? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cbl62 (talkcontribs)

Jumping in here... From your comments on Cbl62's talk page, it seems like your concerns with Scat Metha were notability. If you take a look at Wikipedia:Notability (people), particulary the criteria for athletes, any player for the Detroit Tigers would meet the criteria.--Kathy A. 15:32, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Famecity

Thanks for reminding me that I'd forgotten about this page. Sorry that you needed to remind me.

I've just posted the following on Anthony.bradbury's talk page:

At 11:42, 23 June 2007 (UTC), Eliz81 placed a message starting "A tag has been placed on Famecity, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia." on my talk page.

This has never happened to me before, so I'm not exactly sure what to do. From Eliz81's posting, I deduced (perhaps wrongly) that I needed to place { { hangon } } on that page, and then leave a note on the talk page. So clicked on the blue link to that page, and was greeted by "Wikipedia does not have an article with this exact name". So I clicked on the deletion log and saw:
11:48, 23 June 2007 Anthony.bradbury (Talk | contribs) deleted "Famecity" ( { { db-corp } } )

Six minutes. Wow! That certainly is "speedy deletion"!!

So please advise: Given that I can't put "hangon" on the page because it no longer exists, what should I do now? Pdfpdf 12:22, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

(BTW: I agree that the page-as-it-was was indeed a CSD - I started it, got tired, left a note to myself to complete enough of it so it wouldn't be a CSD, went to bed. And then completely forgot about it. (And I don't know what happened to the note!))

Tagging of Nick Hern Books

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Nick Hern Books. I do not think that Nick Hern Books fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because the link to the firm's web site provides pleanty of context for any editor who wants to expand on this. Also a google search on "Nick Hern Books" -Amazon -Wikipedia returns over 49,000 hits -- this seems to be a reasoanbly notable specialist publisher. Obviously this is a minimal stub and should be expanded if possible, but anyone who is intersted should have no trouble findining out what this article is about, and that is the standard for "no context" speedy deletes, IMO. I request that you consider not re-tagging Nick Hern Books for speedy deletion without discussing the matter on the appropriate talk page. DES (talk) 20:39, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

On notability you may well have a point, although since most of the google hits seem to be places selling or refering to books they publish, I suspect they may be notable enough for a niche publisher. But that is exactly that sort of thing that is better settled at an AfD, in my view. On Spam, well a once sentance mention does not seem very spammy to me. You are correct that the stub was a cut and paste (I removed the unencyclopedic adjective, so it isn't an exact copy any more) but once sentace is IMO well within fair use limits, though it does suggest a lazy contributor. You are right that most of the google hits have litle about the company -- if I had found one that was a good source i would have expanded the stub a bit and cited it. But still, i'd be inclined to a keep at an afd i think. DES (talk) 00:31, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Famecity revisited

About the TZHS school page.....

You may have gotten the wrong IP address when you corrected the vandalism there because you targeted ME as the perpetrator. I go to TZHS (you may not care) as a student and tried to see if there was a page on it. When I found it, I had already seen the sentence you deleted, so I couldn't have been the one who wrote that.

Look, I don't mean for this comment to have a mean-spirited tone, just know that I didn't vandalize the page. It may have just been my friend (I know that kid who "isn't cool"). If you want proof, just check the history page, you'll see that a person with a different IP address is responsible for the vandalism, and I only changed it by deleting a fragment.

I don't want to run into any more problems with Wikipedia editors so.....let's forget about this ordeal.

Thank you.

Wait sorry, my mistake. You're right, I didn't make any useful changes. Sorry 'bout that. Hopefully you sent my friend a message...
