Nice job with Hartford neighborhoods

Hi Elipongo,

I noticed you created Neighborhoods of Hartford, Connecticut, which looks good and nicely shortens the Hartford article. For the amount of material you have on each neighborhood, I think you made just the right move. You may want to take a look at the Stamford neighborhoods articles, which are separate articles connected with a template at the bottom, which was appropriate I think for the amount of information presented. Springdale, Connecticut is one of them. Again, great job. Best, Noroton 17:21, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Edit on Morgan Stanley page.

I wrote: Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse were principal underwriters of the the $1.9 billion auction of Google IPO in 2004. Deal is the largest Internet IPO to date. you removed that an in comments you tell me "Largest IPO to date is Industrial & Commercial Bank of China who raised $19 billion last April" I put down that this is the largest internet IPO to date.. and would like to revert it back to what I had if you have no objections.

My apologies! I missed the word "Internet" in the phrase when I first viewed it. I have restored it and added a relevant citation to back it up. If I may, I'd like to suggest that you should include citations for your edits— not only will it prevent honest errors like mine, it makes for a better encyclopedia. Have a great day! --Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 17:06, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for the updates I will look into adding citations in the future. LeMarsu 17:43, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Not a problem. Give me the URL and I'll do it for you, if you like. Alternatively, you can follow the instructions at WP:FOOT and use the citation templates. Thanks for your understanding! —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 03:46, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Nevermind, figured it out. I actually feel like I accomplished something! I'm sorry if I offended you with the Nazi reference. It's quite a common expression, like gyp, but I can see how they both can be offensive. Billywhack 04:07, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Excellent! I figured you'd enjoy doing it yourself rather than having someone do it for you, yet more of the magic of the wiki! As for the use of the word Nazi, I don't get offended as such; more like acutely annoyed at the irony of labeling a Jew as a Nazi (though there were in fact Jewish members of the Nazi party, believe it or not!) It does bother me, though, that the word Nazi has been so watered down that it can be used for any mildly negative connotation (e.g. The Soup Nazi from Seinfeld), that's a bit of a demotion from genocide of Jews, Romani, Gays, Handicapped, etc. But I guess there's really no fighting the vagaries of language, is there? On that note, there isn't a clear connection between Gypsies and the word gyp, check out this site. Thanks for working to make the encyclopedia better! —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 04:27, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
The only reason I bring up the gyp thing is I had a Romany teacher FLIP OUT on me sophomore year of high school. Have a good day! Billywhack 04:44, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

VxWorks

I disagree. The changes I made were all factual. Removing them without at least considering rephrasing was uncalled for. :( C++ Template 14:54, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Here is the summary of the edits you made to VxWorks diff. Please explain how changing the wikilink to point to a rap artist who goes by the name P.O.S. was in any way factual, I would like to know. I was going to give you a warning for plain vandalism, but I mitigated it because of the rest of your edits which only seemed like a violation of the neutral point of view policy. Also, if the changes you made are factual, then please find proper attribution from reliable sources and cite them before you add them again. Thank you and have a great day! —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 17:22, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Rap artist? Hmm must've been a typo. I'll have to review it to see the context. The rest of my changes were factual; so maybe you should've just yanked the one mistake and confronted me on the rest first? C++ Template 00:08, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

To change "Similar operating systems to "Superior operating systems" isn't a factual change. It's a change from a neutral adjective to one that conveys an opinion that can't be factually verified and is inherently controversial.--Prosfilaes 13:41, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing that one out for me Prosfilaes, it saves me some typing. As for the criticism section of your edit, question C++ Template, it was unsourced, potentially controversial, and loaded with weasel words. As I stated above, find proper attribution from reliable sources and cite them before you add information to the encyclopedia, especially controversial information. I would advise you to not take this as a license to delete information from random articles that you think is unsourced for at least two reasons. First many articles use a bibliography style reference section instead of in-line footnotes— the section is often mislabeled as an External links section. Secondly, wildly deleting information would be a violation of the "Do not disrupt Wikipedia to illustrate a point" guideline and would likely get you blocked from editing. Regarding your deleting one of the templates I left on your talk page; while the current consensus is that you're allowed to do so, it is strongly frowned upon. It is completely pointless because every prior version of your talk page is visible in its edit history, and it makes you look like you're trying to hide something. To use a metaphor, it's like quickly stuffing your own umbrella under your jacket while in a department store; you may not have done anything wrong per se, but you better bet that the store's security will be watching you. Please take this advice in the good, helping spirit it is intended to be. Hope this helps explains things. Thanks for writing and have a great day. —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 21:10, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
I still disagree, but I guess it's pick on the new guy day. Sorry to have offended anyone, I'm still new. Oh well. I will try to cite better next time. :( C++ Template 13:06, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. Also remember that contributions are required to conform with the Neutral point of view policy. I'm not trying to pick on you, I'm trying to help you adjust to how things are done here on Wikipedia. If you read some of the links that are in the welcome template I placed on your talk page, it will help you immensely in adapting to the culture here. Thank you! —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 13:22, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Age category

Hello! If you are receiving this message, that means that your user page is in a specific year category. Per a recent user-category per deletion, all specific year categories are to be deleted. If you wish to continue using year categories, you have two options:

  • Using an age group category, such as Category:Wikipedians in their 30s
  • Using a decade category, such as Category:Wikipedians born in the 1970s.

If you wish, you may do both. Hopefully, this change in categorization will be quick and painless. Happy editing! --An automated message from MessedRobot 12:39, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

WP:UW future?

Hi, Sorry for the blatant spam, but you have yourself down as interested at WikiProject user warnings WP:UW. There is a discussion on going here that might be of interest to you about the future of this project. There are two strawpolls on the talk pages and the second one is about the future of the WP:UW project. Now we have the end in sight we are looking at wrapping up the project and merging it with Template messages/User talk namespace WP:UTM and creating a one stop shop for all userspace template issue. As you have yourself down as interested in this project we thought you may have some input on this issue, and would like you to visit the discussion and give any thoughts you may have on the matter. Cheers Khukri 10:16, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

User talk archiving

Thanks for archiving the warnings on the page User talk:82.194.62.23. However, I noticed that you didn't move the warnings to an archive page, you simply removed them. I've rectified the situation by creating User talk:82.194.62.23/Archive 1, and provided the necessary navigation templates on both pages. However, if you archive such pages again, please could you do likewise. Thanks again. robwingfield «TC» 10:32, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

I hope this works properly; l'm typing this on my cellphone because my computer crashed at 09:03 (UTC) Thursday morning and the new one I've ordered won't arrive for a couple of weeks. To address your point about archiving the talk pages of IP users; the guideline at WP:UW states that older warnings should be deleted without archiving. Thank you for your help! ~~

For anyone who's interested, here's what happened. My Sony Vaio gave me the blue screen of death at 09:03(UTC), 22 March 2007. I decided to order a new Lenovo which didn't arrive at my home until April 2. I couldn't start to try getting it set up until April 5 because the Passover holiday. When I tried to insert my Verizon Wireless WWAN card, I was rudely introduced to the fact that the ExpressCard standard has supplanted the old PC Cards and my device no longer fit! At first I planned to take the new computer to a Wi-Fi Hotspot to order a new card, but when I finally got the chance, Verizon's site was down for maintenance. I gave in and bought a new card at a local Verizon Wireless store, only to find out that the included software and drivers weren't compatible with Windows Vista! So I had to go back to the hotspot and download the latest version; however Vista decided to download several updates at the same time and reset some of my settings causing a device conflict between the aircard and my Palm TX that took me a few days to figure out. Anyways, I've finally got everything set up this morning, yay! :-)
I've got a LOT of stuff to catch up on, I'll be around as much as I can! —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 17:30, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Re: Lists of store locations

Hello! I have just read your comment on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Retailing/Company page structure concerning lists of store locations for the first time, and I noticed you posted sometime last year (very sorry it has taken me so long to read this and respond!). I just wanted to let you know that I have started a new discussion concerning this very topic on Wikipedia:WikiProject Retailing/Listings of former locations because it is also a problem in my opinion. Many of these articles that you are referring to are about defunct retailers, although there are some lists of current retail chains such as Dillard's. Hope to come to a resolution! Hey there,

I am so sorry to have to ask you for help on this again, but, that autistic teen is at it again, this time frequently vandalizing the page "list of Lord & Taylor locations"

I see you've worked quite a bit to improve the article on the above notorious antisemitic book. I'm the original contributor. Can you look more carefully at the title - it is not being translated accurately, or literally. Thank you. --151.202.107.230 05:10, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

and provided the image - in part, so that the actual Russian title could be translated accurately: [1] Yours truly, --151.202.107.230 05:19, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

I replaced the word the before the word Anti-Christ. Since the Anti-Christ isn't a specific individual (real or fictional), the word requires the use of either the definite or indefinite Article depending on the usage of the term. —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 07:12, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

Multiple Department Store lists nominated for deletion

Hi Elias! I just wanted to let you know that multiple department store pages both you and I have contributed to are currently nominated for deletion. Please express your opinion if possible. I would like to see these pages stay as is, however, If people feel strongly that certain pages need to be deleted, could we maybe compromise and put the lists of locations on the main page of each store, but hidden, as TenPoundHammer suggests? The deletion page is listed here Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/List_of_Parisian_locations

Ugh. Guess I shouldn't have nicknamed the subject of my post, eh? Bad mistake. I'm just a fan, man (i have a poster!0. I'm also a fan of other artists too - not quite getting the deletion thing. Other contemporary artists are posted on wikipedia...does that mean we have to delete all illustrators? If so, nix Michael Willian Kaluta, Gerald Brom, Tony DiTerlizzi, and that whole generation of artists. I can't ever remember my login, so I login whatevers on my mind at the moment. Sorry bout the confusion. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Echochernik (talk • contribs) 13:04, 7 May 2007 (UTC).

Hello and thanks for writing. I nominated the article for deletion for exactly the reasons I stated in the deletion nomination. I could find no third party references regarding the subject of the article, all I could find are sources with which the subject has a direct affiliation or membership with; please read the verifiability policy to understand why this is a problem. If there is a mention of Mrs. Chernik in third party publication of some sort (online or off, it doesn't matter) then you can add it to the article with proper referencing. Examples of these would be a write up in the New York Times or something like that.
As for the other artists you mention, if you think the same things apply to their articles as to Mrs. Chernik's, then feel free to nominate them for deletion under the same rationale- I may do so myself when/if I get the time and if the same rationale does indeed apply. Hope this addresses your concerns. —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 16:35, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Hello again. I see you have added several general references to the article without actually adding any significant content to the article or indicating which sections of the article your references may be pertinent to. Also, the Talent Speaks article is still a primary source since it states on their About Talent Speaks page, "...empower independent artists to achieve success through self promotion." Correct me if I'm wrong, but this seems like this site is for advertisement purposes by the talents mentioned. You might want to read the relevant notability policy to get an idea of what is needed to establish notability for a person. Thanks again for helping out around on Wikipedia! —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 17:16, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia

Hello Elias! I just received an email today from a student who interviewed me for a project...(it has to be six or eight months ago now), introducing me to Wikipedia. I always thought this was a real encyclopedia - the user editing feature is very unique!

Anyway, he sent me an about the artist page that he created from the interview.... I have a question for you - it's apparent that editing information about youself is strongly frowned upon.... I'd really like to remove the information about my daughters (i'm a bit uncomfortable with that), am I allowed to pop in there and do that? Or do I have to ask him to do that? I can..but i'm afraid to initiate a conversation with him again...he's a bit....um..chatty.

Everything else seems okay. Several of my contemporaries (other artists and influences) also have articles about themselves ... i notice there's a section about influences - can i cite them as influences? Or does someone else have to cite them. For instance, Diterlizzi is a friend of mine, and has an article. Olivia, Stephanie Pui-Mun Law, and Amy Brown as well (especially Amy Brown).

One of my old students (I think it is one of my old students ... it must be ten years ago now) posted information up as well on it. I don't know who the other people are. Pretty neat, you have to love the internet.

On a second note, it seems that we grew up in the same hometown! What are the odds? A very small world indeed. I haven't been up that way for a few months now. I hope that you had a nice weekend. echox—Preceding unsigned comment added by Echox (talkcontribs) 15:25, 7 May 2007

Hello Mrs. Chernik.
I have removed the names of your daughters from the article at your quite reasonable request.
You are quite right that editing of an article by that article's subject is discouraged because of the fact that it is difficult to impossible to be properly objective, the autobiography policy explains the reasons for this very well. If you feel you have information and references relevant to the article, the best course is to post them on the article's talk page and allow other editors to make the changes.
As a side note, the fact that we're both from Ellington isn't nearly as much of a coincidence as it might seem at first. I have contributed to the Ellington, Connecticut article and I regularly check the "What links here" button for that article. I discovered your article very quickly after it was created because of that.
Lastly, please do not erase the comments from talk pages as you did here. It is considered wrong to even remove your own comments from talk pages, much less those of other editors. If you want to take back a statement you've posted on a talk page, the accepted procedure is to use the strike out function, like this. You should only do this for your own comments- editing the comments of others is looked on as vandalism.
Thank you again for writing. Have a great day! —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 16:55, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello Elias!! Thanks for erasing their names (a parent can't be too careful nowadays! There are a lot of strange folks floating around!. Thank you for the tutoral on the proper way to suggest input. I can't see the page right now, I'm not sure why it's not coming up (my internet has been very spotty this morning - letting some pages through, and not others - it probably has to do with the fires down here in Florida - the whole state is burning! lol). I didn't have internet for half the day yesterday. I checked out the Ellington page - don't have a thing to add! You're doing a great job on it! :D Sorry for the comments thing - I haven't really made any contributions to any pages; and don't really have the motivation to. :) - so I apologize for the blunder! :) I was able to take a moment and see some of the pages of my contemporaries - some of them friends of mine. Some are newer artists too with less published. But it's nice to see such a thorough indexing of artists (new and old). :) Talk to you soon! Oh, and I just finished up posters for the CT opera 2007-8 season, so be sure to keep an eye out for them! They should be running in your area soon! Wow strange. Are they going to delete the other artists too?—Preceding unsigned comment added by Echox (talkcontribs) 12:14, 17 May 2007

Not necessarily, each article is discussed on its own merits and someone has to nominate them for the process. I'm not sure who the artists in question would be and wouldn't nominate them myself unless I did some significant digging; that's not something I typically do except for good reasons like copyright violations (something you as an artist will appreciate as important). I only ran across the article about you because of its association with Ellington, and I tried to improve the article and/or get others to improve it for several months before I nominated it for deletion. Even though I did nominate it for deletion, I had hoped that a good rationale for notability per WP:BIO would have come up during the deletion discussion, but that did not happen and the article was deleted. I see that you have opened up a deletion review at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2007 May 17#Echo Chernik and some better assertions towards notability have been raised and you might have a good chance of getting the article restored. I wish you good luck in that and will enjoy seeing an improved version of the article restored. Thanks for writing and try to stay out of the smoke down there! —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 19:44, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

History of Hartford

Concerning your point on the Hartford webpage that the history would be too long in the main article... I reviewed other cities articles (such as Boston page)that were noted as being a featured article or a A class article. These articles were much longer than the Hartoford page and sections were not split off into different pages. Can you help me understand why the a featured or A class page would be longer and more detailed? My goal is to do the samething for the Hartford page once I get some time and additional pictures. Please respond, I am trying to understand this. Thanks JACKSONIAN3623 13:32, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
