I am the Chief Engineer of XP-RAFI, a private R&D company specializing in digital technologies for military and civilian applications. For the past year I have been developing a suite of audio technologies designed to detect movement at fence-lines and other critical security sites. My designs have been adopted by the IDF as the hardware reference for future versions of the Separation Fence. I built the first detector arrays for Magal Group perimeter intrusion detection products.

  • Trane Corporation

I worked for Trane Corporation 12 years as an installer and then a supervisor. During my time at Trane I used the company computers to design my first detectors and produced about a dozen computer controlled audio detection products.

  • College Education & Budweiser Corporation

In 1987 I received my Electrical Engineering degree from Colgate University. While at Colgate, I specialized in Budweiser funnel technologies. My student research focused on increasing the effective volume capacity of the funnel (in its infancy at the time) and I invented a 72 liter funnel for fraternity parties. My research was cut short after the binge drinking death of a fraternity pledge, Ezra Orr, who was on medication for depression (unbeknownst to us at the time). After the death of Ezra Orr, the fraternity was severely punished and I lost interest in Budweiser funnel technology. But the positive outcome of this tragic incident was that I devoted myself to engineering studies. My thesis on breathalyzer ignition locks won awards from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and first place honors in national student research competition. I patented this technology and co-founded SoberDriver Corporation with my fraternity brothers to bring it to the marketplace. Products implementing this technology have enjoyed widespread commercial application, and have won numerous product engineering awards. SoberDriver was purchased by a large company and I was able to make enough money to pay off my student loans.

  • Writing

I am a prolific technical writer for audio and digital products, computer controlled audio detection systems, integrating detection and automated fire control response systems. I have written dozens of proposals for military procurement and for magazines such as: the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society, Army Times, and National Security Review. I wrote the chapter on audio filtering for the AMR anthology on audio/video production. I have also presented many research papers at science conventions in the USA, Canada, and Europe.
