Was he really that well-known before his trial? IMO he was in 2nd league, far from the well-known painters of the epoch (clan of Kossaks, Witkiewicz, Makowski, Mehoffer, Wisznicki...). Upon recently doing some research on this assassination, I find it highly peculiar, that over 10,000 people would in essence morally support a murderer, who assassinated their President. Even more so, since Narutowicz was not any kind of tyrant, and a relative of Pilsudski's. One would hope that there would be a sense of shame if not outright indignation over this crime.
