Description

South side of monument at Eli Whitney grave in Grove Street Cemetery, New Haven, Connecticut. The monument is up against iron fences on the south and west sides of the family plot, necessitating an angled view to see the inscription. Inscription on this side reads: "ELI WHITNEY / The inventor of the Cotton Gin. / Of useful science & arts / the efficient patron and improver."
