North side of monument at grave of Eli Whitney in Grove Street Cemetery, New Haven, Connecticut. The stone is at the southwest corner of a fenced-off family plot in the cemetery. Inscription reads: "ELI WHITNEY. / In the social relations of life a model of excellence. / While private affection weeps at his tomb, / his country honors his memory."
