"Elite" is a song by the Alternative Metal band Deftones on their 2000 album White Pony. In 2001, the song won the Grammy for Best Metal Performance (defeating Slipknot's Wait and Bleed); this has so far been the only Grammy Award the band has won, let alone been nominated for. There has been much speculation about the meaning behind the song, but among the most common "explanations" are that it is about singer Chino Moreno's then-pregnant wife or that it is a calling-out of people who pretend to be special.[citation needed]
