Elisa Au (born May 29, 1981)[1] started karate at 5 years of age. In 2002, Elisa Au became the first American woman to win the gold medal in kumite (open weight division) at the WKF. She majored in civil engineering at the University of Hawaii. In 2008, she married John Fonseca.
