Elings Park
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Elings Park (formerly Las Positas Friendship Park) is in Santa Barbara, California. It is located east of Las Positas Road, and south of U.S. Highway 101. The park consists of two levels of fields, around which are hills. On and around these hills are paths developed extensively for hiking and biking. There is a Cross-Country Biking Course and a Downhill Course. During cross country season teams train on the course because of its hilly nature. The inner fields are suitable for rugby union, soccer and baseball games. The park is a hub for youth sports and paragliding.
Most of the park is built on the old, now-closed Santa Barbara Landfill. The official opening of the park was in 1985, and it changed names several times: at first it was "Las Positas Park", then in 1991 became "Las Positas Friendship Park", and in 1999, in acknowledgement of more than two million dollars given by the family of Virgil Elings, the City renamed the park to Elings Park.
