Elijah Spencer

Elijah Spencer (1775 - December 15, 1852) was a U.S. Representative from New York.

Born in Columbia County, New York, Spencer received a limited education. He moved to Jerusalem (later Benton), New York, in 1791 and engaged in agricultural pursuits. Supervisor of the town of Benton 1810-1819. He served as member of the state assembly in 1819.

Spencer was elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Seventeenth Congress (March 4, 1821-March 3, 1823). Again supervisor of Benton 1826-1828. He served as member of the state constitutional convention in 1846. He resumed agricultural pursuits. He died in Benton, New York, December 15, 1852. He was interred in Lake View Cemetery, Penn Yan, New York.
