Talk:Elgin-O'Hare Expressway
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I reverted some edits to this page, and someone may not be too happy, but things need to be sorted out.
- Interstate 190 (Illinois) cannot be extended west through O'Hare. It's not going to happen, and isn't on any planning map I know of.
- A ring road may be created that runs parallel to (and just a smidge east of) York Road / Elmhurst Road. It will be part of the tollway system and encircle O'Hare, but this is unfunded as of 2005. Termini will be at or around current Irving Park Road at Interstate 294, and Interstate 90 at around Mount Prospect Road.
- The Elgin O'Hare Expansion eastward will follow Thorndale Road to York Road, merge into the ring road, and then travel around to Interstate 294.
- If created, the ring road may not be numbered. It needs to be funded first.
- There is additional information on the history of this project at the following pages. http://www.suburban-ohare.org/detail.asp?OBJECT_ID=528 http://www.elk-grove-village.il.us/OhareAirport/oha4.htm

Thorndale road / EOE is to be part of the o'harew west terminal http://www.ohare.com/MasterPlan/Section%20V.4%20-%20Alternatives%20-%201.pdf the ring road may be part of I-88, I-290, I-294, US 20, IL 38, and IL 64 Interchange http://whereroadsmeet.8k.com/Interchange/il-i88-i290.htm
- That's fine, but these are things that may happen. That needs to be explicitly stated in the article, if it is in there. The ring road is not a done deal until it is funded. The only thing that is funded is PE I on the west end up to County Farm Road, which isn't very much. --Rob 20:31, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Trivia?
I don't know if it's worth mentioning, but wags from the northwest suburbs have been calling it the "Almost-Elgin-Almost-O'Hare" as a nickname since it opened, as the road reaches neither destination. Yeah, I know, I'd have to find that in print somewhere. --JohnDBuell 05:22, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- I've heard it called "The Road to Nowhere", but not in print. — goethean ॐ 14:38, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
Often referred to as the "E-Way."
[edit] Who's in charge?
With the highway crossing the Cook-Dupage county boundary several times, that brings the question as to who is in charge of maintenance, etc. of the highway. I have honestly never seen any police vehicles on the road either. Is this a state highway even though it is not numbered?

I believe it's a state highway. There are others like this - see "Mileage Signs and 900 series "Route Numbers"" on [1]. --SPUI (T - C) 22:58, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Westward extension
There is no East Bartlett Rd. in Bartlett, IL. There are West and South Bartlett Roads, and West and East Bartlet Avenues. Best guess, this should read South Bartlett Road. --Pascal666 06:26, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Picture
I can probably get a picture soon (a week or so) of course the quality will not be too great considering I will have to take it from inside the car. I can show the wetlands and the lake street exit/entrance DPM 19:53, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
